    First Annual Benefit a Success

    ETM-Bay Area staff, supporters, guests, students, parents, and friends celebrated our work restoring music education to the curriculum of schools serving at-risk populations at our first annual benefit at the historic Women's Building in San Francisco's Mission District. The event highlighted the successes of our programs, and provided guests with a chance to experience the joy of listening to students from our partner schools and our consulting project, the Dominican Schools Music Project (DSMP), perform.

    Peres Teaching Artist Sings on Grammy Award Winning Recording

    Winter Concerts Ring in New year

    December is a time when the holiday spirit surrounds us with the sights of decorations, the smells of Christmas trees, and the sounds or carols. At the schools we serve, December was a time to showcase student learning from the first half of the school year through winter concerts.

    All Aboard

    ETM-Bay Area attended the Volunteer Center’s Board Match event on January 12th as one of over 100 participating nonprofit organizations. The Board Match is a free job-fair style event aiming to pair the over 1,000 attendees interested in board service with a nonprofit organization serving a mission matching their own.

    Around the World in Orff Workshop

    ETM-Bay Area program staff members joined Orff master teacher Doug Goodkin and dedicated music instructors from around the Bay Area for a daylong workshop at the San Francisco School. Teaching artists from both of our partner schools attended the workshop, which provided our instructors with an opportunity to learn new, exciting teaching methods that they can use in the classroom.

    Coronado Students Receive Star Treatment

    On Thursday, November 19, 2009, kindergarten and fourth grade students at Coronado Elementary got a first hand look at how music becomes a part of Hollywood films when LA- based singer/songwriter Lisbeth Scott visited ETM-Bay Area music classes.

    Lisbeth showed the students clips featuring her music from Shrek and Narnia from the earliest stages of production beginning with storyboards to the final product with complete musical accompaniment to demonstrate the impacts sound and music have in transforming and enhancing the mood of a film. Ms. Scott is currently working to promote the ETM mission, and on tour with a portion of her proceeds benefitting our affiliate organization, ETM-LA.
